Reorganization 2025: Overview and invitation to get involved

All precinct committee officers (PCOs) and paid members of the 5th District Democrats are invited to join us for our 2025 reorganization meeting on Wednesday, January 22, at 7PM via Zoom.

Please register at least 24 hours before the meeting. The Zoom room will open at 6:30PM for anyone who might require technical assistance or want to socialize before the meeting begins. The meeting will follow this agenda [link TBD] and these rules [link TBD], which include details of voting procedures.

What is reorganization? Each Democratic organization in Washington state — at the legislative district, county, and state levels — serves for a two-year term. After each election cycle in an even year (such as 2024), every organization dissolves its leadership and holds elections to refill its executive board. This is known as reorganization.

Who can participate? Any Democrat who lives in Washington state’s 5th legislative district is invited to attend our reorganization meeting.

  • Elected PCOs* can vote for all executive-board and committee-chair positions.
  • Appointed/acting PCOs and paid members can vote for certain executive-board and all committee-chair positions.
If you paid membership dues in 2024, your membership remains active through the end of January 2025.

If you want to vote at our 2025 reorganization meeting, you must join by Jan. 1, 2025.

How do I run for a position? Any Democrat who resides in our district can run for any seat on the executive board (description of each position). Candidates can be nominated from the floor, but we encourage anyone who is interested in running to submit a self-nomination form before 11:59 PM on Jan. 18, 2025. This allows ballots to be prepared before the meeting and members to learn about who’s running before they vote. We further encourage candidates to submit written statements (up to 200 words) that will be posted on our website here.

What if more than one person files for a position? During the meeting, candidates in contested races can speak for up to two minutes in favor of their candidacy, or they can yield all or part of their time to other speakers. If any candidate has technology-related or other concerns about being able to speak during the virtual meeting, please reach out as soon as possible.

What if I need meeting accommodations? If you need any accommodations to be able to participate fully in this meeting, please reach out and let us know what kind of support you need.

What if I have another question? Please reach out with any questions you have about reorganization, the agenda, open board positions, voting, etc.

*Elected PCOs filed in May, were either elected or unopposed in the August primary election, and they became PCOs effective Dec. 1, 2024. PCOs who were appointed during a 5th Dems meeting (but did not file for election in May) are no longer PCOs after their terms expired on Nov. 30, 2024. Elected PCOs are members of our organization, regardless of whether they pay dues.
